Salineras - Maras - Moray Hike
Spend a day visiting several treasures of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, off-the beaten path and away from the crowds.
Our bilingual guides are locals, extremely knowledgeable about the area and are dedicated to enhancing your experience with us. Our support team will prepare and serve you a delicious lunch, carry your gear, assist you at every turn from door-to-door. All you have to do is enjoy your day following the footsteps of the Incas!
The day will start when our private vehicle (a comfortable sedan or a van) collects you from your accommodation in Cusco/the Sacred Valley to bring you to the Salineras Ranch, located just outside the town of Urubamba, in the Pichingoto Community. Here you will meet your guides and get to see our beautiful ranch, with the majestic sacred valley mountains all around. You can meet our horses, and watch the hummingbirds.
We will start the hike by going up an ancient, steep path for 30 minutes with a stunning view over 4000 salt ponds: the legendary Salineras salt mines. Setting off early will ensure we beat the tourists. You will get an opportunity to explore the salt pinds and see the 'ojo de agua', the spring that is the source of the salt.
We will then continue walking for another 45 minutes up to the quaint, colonial village of Maras. We will walk through the streets, where you can see one of the first Spanish churches, and the coats of arms from different Spanish colonial families carved into the stone doorways.
Just outside of Maras village there is a peaceful meadow, where our advance-team will set everything up for your picnic-style lunch break. We will ensure you have plenty of time to admire the breathtaking valley and the snow-capped peaks. After another hour across the plains we will reach the archeological site of Moray, an Incan center for agricultural experimentation and development. Here you can explore the impressive architecture of Moray. Once you are ready, your driver will be ready to bring you back to your accommodation in Cusco/the Sacred Valley.
To avoid crowds, we start this hike early - at 8:30 am.
Varies depending on the location of your hotel. If you are coming from Cusco, your driver will pick you up from your accommodation at 7:00 am, if you are already in the Sacred Valley pickup will be at 8:00 am.
